City of Nanaimo Bans Gas as a Primary Heat Source

Have you heard the news!

Nanaimo City Council has voted to adopt the BC Zero Carbon Step Code which will come into effect July 1, 2024. The code sets a maximum greenhouse gas emission that new buildings, which includes newly built homes and small and large buildings, are allowed to emit. The code effectively bans the use of natural gas as a primary heat source! Natural gas can still be used as a secondary or emergency heat source in buildings. This is somewhat in line with the trend towards using heat pumps as a more efficient way to heat and cool homes and buildings. What are your thoughts on this?
